DATC Dental Assistant I Program | Week 6 What will I learn?

At Dental Assistant Training Centers (DATC) and week 6 starts off with our Mid Term Exam and Instrument Identification.  We then move straight into learning about Impressions; how to take them, the different types of impressions and the different types of materials to take an impression with.  We also learn how to make a model from an impression and the different types of materials that can be used to make models.  It's a messy day, but there is lots of learning going on in the clinic.  Taking Impressions and Making Models help tie another piece of our ever growing puzzle together.  Our wonderful instructors help keep everyone on track with this fast paced class.  We are Half Way There and quickly gathering all  the knowledge needed to go out and get a job as a DA I.

At DATC we use the TELL, SHOW, DO learning experience for teaching.  When you come in each Saturday beginning on week 2 after you have read all of the information in the assigned chapters of your textbook for class and turned in your homework, you will have a test on the information you learned from the previous week then:

  • The instructor(s) will go through the powerpoint lecture (TELL) on all the material.
  • The instructor(s) will take all the students to the clinic area and demonstrate (SHOW) how to perform the skill needed.
  • The students will practice (DO) their new skills on each other or on dentoforms.

Students are assessed on their skills learned each week and then again multiple times during the 12 weeks to make sure they can execute their new skills accurately and professionally.
